BINAYAK SEN, THE STATE AND THE COURTS
Dr. Binayak Sen is a devoted paediatrician and human rights activist. He was particularly concerned with the health and social status of Adivasis in Chhattisgarh, the Indian state ruled by the Hindu chauvinist party Bhartiya Janata Dal (BJP); the area is also a hotbed of Maoist activity. He was unjustly arrested a few years ago for allegedly supporting Maoists; after incarceration he was released on bail. His case came up for trial and the court found him guilty of sedition.
