ROMILA THAPAR’S LECTURE ON SECULARISM IN MUMBAI OCT. 26, 2015
Prof. Romila Thapar’s Lecture on Secularism in Mumbai, under the auspices of the Centre for Study of Society and Secularism, in memory of the Centre’s founder, late Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer, was a resounding success.
The hall with capacity of 600 was full and some others standing. There were again 50-70 people standing outside the gate and weren’t allowed in by the police apparently for security reasons. Among those attending were academicians, advocates, film makers, students, political activists from liberals to left, cultural activists etc. The lecture was followed by good discussion for about 45 minutes. We have video recorded the lecture and will be uploading the video once it is edited and we receive it. The whole thing was so encouraging and inspiring. We need to break our silence and speak for democracy and secularism!
